Background

The UvA Academy regularly conducts evaluations, at the subject's request, regarding the performance of a bank or insurance company's own supervisory board or managing board. The purpose of the evaluation is to critically reflect on the performance of the supervisors or executives. After all, periodic evaluation can enhance the quality of a supervisory or executive board's performance and contribute to solid decision-making during preparations for the appointment or reappointment of a supervisor or executive, including with respect to the appropriate (and appropriately diverse) composition of the board.

Description

Evaluation is conducted by means of an independent external adviser. Each supervisor or executive must have the opportunity to speak in confidence during the evaluation. At minimum, an effective evaluation gives supervisors or executives the chance to share their ideas on what good supervision and good administration is, and what the role of the supervisory bodies should be, including in relation to the external supervisory bodies, the executive board and key positions within the bank or insurance company. By answering the question of what exactly constitutes good supervision or good administration, it becomes easier for members to reflect on their own performance. Ultimately, evaluation is intended to contribute to the improvement of future performance.
