Reinsurance in-depth modules

Reinsurance

In close cooperation with the NRV, UvA ABV has developed and marketed a successful course titled Essentials of Reinsurance. The evaluation of this course has shown that there is also a need for a more in-depth follow-up course consisting of four advanced modules that can be taken either separately or in their entirety. Each specialisation module involves 4 hours of contact education. Below, you will find information about the lecturer and the main components of the modules.

Target group

The modules are intended for everyone who encounters the field of reinsurance and has an academic work and thinking level and has followed the course Essentials of Reinsurance or can demonstrate to have at least similar knowledge.

€ 400,- per session (4 hours)

Specialisation module 1

Reinsurance policy: development, design, implementation and evaluation

Content

  • Process of reinsurance policy development and relationship with other policy documents
  • Design of reinsurance policy including principles, RACI model and (choice) indicators
  • Implementation of reinsurance policy, dilemmas in implementation and accountability
  • Review of reinsurance policy, possible findings and possible solutions

Specialisation module 2

Reinsurance programme: modelling, pricing and structuring

Content

  • Advantages and disadvantages of different contract forms (quota share, excess of loss, etc.)
  • Large claims vs. frequency risk plus consequences for structuring and pricing
  • Life and disability plus alternative forms of reinsurance
  • Consequences for solvency

Reinsurance contracts: contract security and compliance

Content

  • Legal status of the reinsurance contract
  • Conclusion of the reinsurance contract
  • Contractual security: some important provisions of the reinsurance contract
  • Relevant laws and regulations and compliance monitoring

Specialisation module 4

Reinsurance activities: operational and administrative embedding and processing

Content

  • Primary reinsurance processes distinction and design
  • Embedding controls and key controls in processes (correctness of data, etc.)
  • Internal reporting (performance, settlements, for solvency calculations)
  • External reporting (a.o. regulators)
