Since spring 2020, the Dutch Insurance Market has been providing training courses on the essentials of the reinsurance profession. These are offered by the UvA Academy for Banking and Insurance (UvA ABV) in cooperation with the Dutch Reinsurance Association (NRV). The courses aim to raise the level of knowledge on reinsurance in the industry to a higher level. The first and second editions of the basic course Essentials of Reinsurance were a great success! This has led us to also offer in-depth modules in 2021. For the time being, all meetings will be virtual until physical meetings are possible again. Exams will also be taken online.

The meetings of the Essentials of Reinsurance programme are a great success!

On Friday 15 November 2019, NRV and the UvA ABV signed their cooperation plans.

Although the NRV is still relatively young, interest is high. Currently, over 200 individuals from the reinsurance industry are members of the association. Active involvement in reinsurance activities is a requirement for membership of the NRV. Members work for (captive) insurers, reinsurance brokers, financial consultants or government agencies related to the reinsurance industry.

Reinsurance is becoming an increasingly important topic for financial service providers, and for the regulator. But in the training offer until spring 2020, the subject was still underexposed and formed at most a small part of insurance technical modules. Together with the UvA Academy for Banking and Insurance, the Dutch Insurance Association therefore took the initiative to set up this new study programme.
